Why the FSSUK joined the Foreign Bird Federation The
Foreign Softbill Society UK (FSSUK) unanimously agreed to affiliate
to the Foreign Bird Federation (FBF) because we all felt it was long
overdue that an organisation united all Foreign Bird societies and clubs
under one umbrella. The power of an individual society can be extremely
strong but when the foreign bird societies are united and all speaking
from one platform, the voice can be the loudest and most efficient form
of problem solving, whether that's for local or international political
issues or more common domestic issues. FSSUK Aims & Objectives The
Promotion and Establishment of Captive Bred Softbills. |

The Promotion of Exhibiting - Guidance in presentation of species that were regularly shown or suitable subjects for the show bench, establishing future judging guidelines, making awards available for specimen species (tapping into the type our members keep). Information Exchange - The aim is to encourage pro-active exchange through online forum and printed threads in magazines and newsletters, allowing keepers to have fellowship with like-minded keepers. A long-term goal is to increase information sharing etc on a formal basis with zoo's and Bird Gardens. A breeder's database - A species database of holders and breeders, with updates through the database coordinator. First breeding records - A register of all Softbill species first breedings in the UK. Endangered species breeding programme - This is to involve selected groups of birds that would be given a high level of research and information collection, collaboration with other countries and organisations and an exchange programme (stud book). Species
co-ordination - Administration tools that deliver the information
within the society, target species groups and results reporting on
mortality, husbandry and breeding. Benefits of FSSUK membership Membership is free at present and we aim to be mainly an internet based society for the first couple of years that will then progress onto a land based society with the eventual introduction of subscription fees and magazines. We are
in the early stages of establishing our website that will deliver
its content with a 24 hour, 7 days a week live access and method of
content delivery with multiple authors, editors and content scheduling.
